What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is a form of therapy treatment that focuses on identifying our negative core beliefs that have been carried both physically and emotionally throughout our lives. We work to make these beliefs less distressing, while simultaneously building the positive core beliefs that counter the negative ones.

EMDR is most commonly known for its effectiveness in treating PTSD and trauma symptoms, but is also incredibly helpful for folks who are trying to work through different “impasses” in life like making a shift in careers, building more confidence, and wanting more mental peace in your life and relationships.

How does it work?

No, EMDR is not hypnosis! It uses bilateral stimulation (usually with eye movements or tapping on opposite sides of the body) that imitates REM sleep. The bilateral stimulation helps the body and mind move through distressing memories and feelings, allowing trauma to be processed and become less overwhelming.

It is safe for anyone, including those who are pregnant, and has been proven to improve symptoms of anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, and other forms of mental or emotional distress.
